Ballet Folklórico de México de Amalia Hernández

Ballet Folklórico de México de Amalia Hernández make their highly anticipated return with an acclaimed repertory that brings together the music, dance, and costume of Mexican folklore from pre-Columbian civilizations through the modern era. Their repertory includes more than 40 ballets of exquisite choreography that pay homage to local dance traditions from over 60 regions of Mexico. Amalia Hernández founded the Ballet Folklórico de México in 1952, having embarked at a very early age on a quest to preserve the dancing traditions of her beloved country. More than six decades later, the Company is admired as the best of its kind in the world.

DCA LA Dance platform

ODC Dance

ODC/Dance was formed by Brenda Way in 1971 as a collective of artists at Oberlin College in Ohio where their name (Oberlin Dance Collective) originated. Adventure, a certain irreverence, and the joy of moving were key ingredients to the core philosophy of their founding members.

Rockin’ Road to Dublin

Inspired by epic spectacles like Riverdance, Rockin’ Road To Dublin’s renowned ensemble is reviving the classic art form to create a new Irish show with a contemporary feel and a broad appeal. Choreographer and lead male Scott Doherty (Riverdance & Lord of the Dance) has teamed up with veteran Celtic rocker Chris Smith to produce an exciting fusion of music,movement and culture that has never been done before.

Globalfest on the road: Creole Carnival

globalFEST, one of the most dynamic global music platforms in North America, takes their showcase on the road for the first time with Creole Carnival! This ensemble celebrates the crossroads of African musical currents and their intersection with the sounds of the Caribbean and Latin America revolving around the annual Carnival festivities. Featuring Casuarina from Brazil, Emeline Michel from Haiti, and Brushy One String from Jamaica.

Ballet Hispanico

Ballet Hispánico

Cal State LA is proud to host Ballet Hispánico, the nation’s premier Latino dance organization, as a company-in-residence. For nearly 50 years, Ballet Hispánico has been bringing communities together to celebrate and explore Latino cultures through innovative productions, transformative dance training, and community engagement. Representing a multitude of nationalities, the Company’s artists reflect the ever-changing face of our nation.

Ballet Hispánico returns to the Luckman stage to showcase their all-Latina choreographers program: Annabelle Lopez Ochoa’s Sombrerísimo, Michelle Manzanales’ Con Brazos Abiertos, and Tania Pérez-Salas’ 3. Catorce Dieciséis.

Six decades later, the company continues to celebrate the diverse cultures of Mexico and is admired by audiences as the best of its kind.

Ido Tadmor & Eliwira Piorun

Renowned Israeli choreographer and dancer Ido Tadmor is joined by celebrated Polish dancer Elwira Piorun for the Los Angeles premiere of two recent works produced in collaboration with choreographer Rachel Erdos. Ido Tadmor is the artistic director of the prestigious Israel Ballet and is the recipient of the Landau Prize for life achievement. Elwira Piorun is known for her unparalleled grace and elegance and was for many years the soloist at the Teatr Wielki – the Polish National Opera in Warsaw. Ido Tadmor and Elwira Piorun join forces to perform two duets entitled ‘Engage’ and ‘Rust.’ The works follow two lovers as they mature together as a couple.

Now nearly two decades old, the company has been shaping the cultural landscape of these communities and influencing the dance field at large. A European sensibility glossed with American ebullience forges ASFB’s aesthetic, as the company has come to epitomize the contemporary-classical genre.

Amalia Hernández founded the Ballet Folklórico de México in 1952, having embarked at a very early age on a never-ending quest to rescue the dancing traditions of Mexico. Six decades later, the company is admired as the best of its kind in the world. Ballet Folklórico de México has created more than forty ballets incorporating local dance traditions from some 60 regions of Mexico, presented more than 5,000 performances, and won more than 200 awards for artistic achievement.

RUBBERBANDance

Presenting choreographic works that examine human relationships, this extraordinary collection of world-class dancers articulates the perfect marriage between explosive hip-hop physicality and the subtle profoundness of contemporary story telling. A combination of the narrative, the spectacular, and the freedom of break dancing with the abstraction, nuances, and technique of contemporary dance results in a true hybrid of dance forms. Under the direction of distinguished dancer and choreographer Victor Quijada, Rubberbandance has soared to extraordinary levels. The Los Angeles native formulates a refined repertoire that amalgamates his early roots with his transplanted foundation.
