Artist Talk with Amina Cruz

Blessings from the Three

Event Information

Information

Join us for a conversation with artist Amina Cruz, whose exhibition Blessings from the Three, on view at The Luckman, marks her first institutional solo show. Exhibition curator Aaron Gomez will introduce Cruz and frame Blessings from the Three‘s central themes.

In the exhibition, Cruz unveils a new body of work that explores identity, intimacy, and place within Los Angeles’ Chicanx queer communities. It brings together portraits that honor these communities, mirrored landscapes that play with reflection and self-perception, and immersive installation. These elements build a layered, deeply personal world — one that speaks to chosen family, cultural inheritance, and the spaces where queerness and Chicanx identity intersect and flourish.

Alongside Cruz’s work is FuturoGenerational, a companion exhibition that responds to Blessings from the Three. Curated through an open call to Southern California college and university students, FuturoGenerational offers an emerging generation of artists the chance to engage with Cruz’s themes and extend the conversation in their own voices. Together, the two exhibitions create a dialogue between established and emerging perspectives, tradition, and reinvention.

Artist Talk with Amina Cruz.

A guided walkthrough of Blessings from the Three with artist Amina Cruz.

Amina Cruz is an artist born and raised in Los Angeles, CA. She spent her teenage years in Tampa, FL, and then hitchhiked around the country before deciding to move to New York City, where she earned her BFA in Photography from Parsons School of Design. She also holds an MFA from the University of California, Los Angeles.

Cruz’s photographs are utopias and landscapes filled with conversations, power, relationships, memories, joy, and fantasies that you can feel. Her interests are based in queer culture, film/analog photography, and the space between transformation and identity. Her work has been exhibited at MOCA Tucson, San Diego Art Institute, Creative Center for Photography, The Getty, and galleries throughout the country. Cruz’s work is held in various private collections and institutions, including Loyola Marymount University, the University of California, Santa Barbara, and The Getty.
