Global Arts Fest

An exciting new event to celebrate the diversity within our community through multicultural music, art, crafts, dance, food, and audience participation.

Global Arts Fest was created to provide civic and cultural cooperation between people and communities in the greater Los Angeles area. With a variety of activities and workshops, we aim to connect attendees with one another through creative learning and team building.

Globals Arts Fest also gives people who have previously attended a LuckmanPlus event a chance to return and share their stories and experiences of cultural and artistic enrichment. We invite all from the community to view these inspirational stories and performances.

Festinema French Youth Film Festival

To celebrate the Francophonie Festival, the Luckman will host the Alliance Française’s Festinema Junior French Youth Film Festival. Inspired by a program developed in France by the Ministry of Education in order to discover, understand, and promote an appreciation for cinema.

Jad Abumrad

Jad Abumrad, the host and creator of Radiolab, which reaches roughly two million people per month, makes his debut at the Luckman Fine Arts Complex at Cal State LA with his new program, Gut Churn. The evening begins with two simple questions: What does it mean to “innovate?” How does it feel to make something new in the world? On one level, it’s the personal story of how Abumrad invented a new aesthetic. On another, it is a clinic in the art of storytelling. And on a more profound level, the journey is the result of a three-year investigation into the science, philosophy, and art of uncertainty, which all began with the two words that are the title of this presentation: gut churn. What use do negative feelings have during the creative process?  Do those feelings get in the way, or do they propel us forward?

Dance & Dialogue

The Dance & Dialogue series at the Luckman is a program that allows teens from all over the city with a shared interest in dance to come together and connect. This program is an opportunity for students to put dance in a context beyond performance-based skills alone. It is a chance to appreciate the expression of emotional honesty through movement, and so to grow as an individual.
